While growers are winding down their harvests, we want to remind them that the Sales Closing Date for their 2013 fall crops is just a few short weeks away. This is a critical time of year, as applications for crop insurance must be completed and submitted to the crop insurance provider by the Sales Closing Date in order to buy coverage for next year’s production.
Upcoming Sales Closing Dates are:
- October 31st – Alfalfa Seed, Barley, Forage (Alfalfa Hay), Oats, Wheat
- November 20th – All Citrus & Blueberries
- December 31st – Almonds, Pistachios, Safflower
The Sales Closing Date is the last date to apply for crop insurance coverage for any of the various Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) policies or make changes in coverage from the previous year.
Growers should become familiar with crop insurance dates and decide by this date as to which type of policy and the level of protection they want for the upcoming year.
It is also a good time of year reevaluate your risk and review your farming operations with your agent.
